About the Project
The dumagueteunitown.com web portal is a project of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Oriental for Dumaguete City under the DTI's One Town, One Product (OTOP) program.

Dumaguete City's Education Industry, its primary engine of growth, accounts for at least 2 billion pesos of spending every year. In fact, its best-known product is the graduate – thousands of whom pass every year through the halls of the city's schools and out into the world looking for jobs. For a lucky few, a number of business process outsourcing (BPO) companies that have recognized the considerable potential of this relatively untapped resource, have set up offices in and around the city. This web portal is envisioned to help grow this OTOP product and positively affect the vast opportunities in investments and job generation in downstream businesses like hotels, lodging/boarding houses, transport services, restaurants and cafes, copy shops, and internet facilities. It is meant to attract not only students, both local and foreign, but also all those who might want to study, live, work, invest in, and employ from, Dumaguete City.

The unified promotion of this University Town's Education Industry will leverage the various strengths and resources of the different colleges and universities, and provide the impetus to synergy among them. It is expected to result in more students and visitors, more employers, more businesses, while advancing closer ties among the schools and between the Education Industry and various other industries.
