Is it true that e-commerce in the Phils. is still in its infancy stage? What maybe the cause? Is it something to do with our culture? Segurista kc ang mga pinoy, item muna bago bayad. But i believe 3 to 5 years from now, e-commerce will skyrocketing just like celphones 10 years ago.

Here are some reasons
1. PC and internet coverage. If you noticed, prices are going down for hardware and isp, so just wait a bit
2. E-bay types are not 100% fool-proof, meaning you can pay but won't get the stuff and still considered risky.
3. Filipinos buy only a selected kind of product online, like something they won't have to test, or return
4. We lack credible e-commerce portals since the big sellers won't dare go online and lose traditional customers... or so they think.
5. Credibiity is always needed. I believe there should be a need for sellers (and maybe cash buyers) to identify themselves or at least provide due registrations to the web portal to ensure honest transactions.

I heard of a site being developed that will answer the needs. Tsismis lang. Til then, we'll have to wait.

I think it also has to do with the dangers of using a credit card online. I know several Filipinos who are wary of identity theft, with good reason. Even though the Philippines has laws that govern e-commerce, I don't think these laws are enforced that well. And to be honest, enforcing laws and punishing criminals isn't a priority of the government these days.
