Pinoyexchange's American Idol Season 10 Guessing Game

The contest started March 29 and ended May 26, 2011. They revised the rules for guessing in the Finals.

 

The inital set of rules:

 

  1. Open to all Pexers. Pexers abroad can join as long as there is someone who can claim their prize on their behalf.
  2. One entry per Pexer only.
  3. Each week, Pexers will predict the "Bottom 3 contestants" and send it via private message (PM) to “IMTVcontests” with the subject: “AI 10 Contest Week _” . The entry should have your mobile number, location, and email address.
  4. Each correct prediction of the bottom 3 (or bottom 2 if that would be the case) will get 10 points each, a wrong prediction will not have a deduction. But a prediction should always have 3 contestants, if the entry is less than or exceeds that number, it will be disqualified.
  5. A Pexer has an option to predict on who will be eliminated and if his/her prediction is correct s/he will get an additional 40 points but if the prediction is wrong s/he will get a 20 point deduction. In case there will be a double elimination, you'll get 40 points each per correct guess likewise, you'll get a 20 point deduction per wrong guess

  7. In case there will be a non-elimination week, the guessing game will be suspended for that week.
  8. Once you submit your entry you can not change it.
  9. Pexers are not allowed to post their contest entries on any AI10-related thread, if they do so, their contest entry for that week will be disqualified.
  10. We will have the weekly guessing game until the top 4, so there will be one winner each week. Even if you already won in one week, you can still join in the succeeding weeks.
  11. The Pexer with the highest score each week will win a special loot bag from Pex. In case of a tie, the Pexer who submitted it first will win
  12. Time period of submission per week is from Saturday 12am until Thursday 11:59 pm Philippine Time (GMT+8). The elimination episode is aired every Friday in the Philippines.
  13. The winner will be announced every Monday.

 

The final set of rules:

 

1. Pexers will predict the ranking of the final 4 contestants (Scotty, Haley, James and Lauren) and send it via PM to “IMTVcontests” with the subject: “FINAL 4”. The entry should have your mobile number, location, email, and predictions

2. Each correct prediction will earn you 20 points, a wrong prediction will not have a deduction. However, it is not allowed to have more than two or more names per ranking and repetition is not allowed

3. A Pexer has an option to “lock” his/her predictions per placing. Once you choose to “lock” you predictions, you will earn 30 points instead of just 20 points per correct prediction but if your prediction is wrong you will get a 10 point deduction per wrong guess.

4. Locking your predictions is flexible; you can choose to “lock” just one, or two or three if not all four placings. It’s your call!

8. Submission period is from May 6, 2011 (Friday) until (Thursday) May 12, 11:59 pm Philippine Time (GMT+8). 

9. You can not change your entry once you submitted it

4. What makes this campaign outstanding? (results generated and how it helped the organization in comparison to how it was prior to start of the campaign)

 

PinoyExchange saw an opportunity to spark engagement in their forums and keep people coming back to it. Specifically, they took advantage of having many Pinoy American Idol fans in their forums who wanted to vote but couldn't, by giving them an incentive to predict who would be eliminated, and in the finals, the ranking of the final four. They also used this as an opportunity to give back to their forum members, by giving away PinoyExchange goodie bags, and for the finals, an Astroplus gift certificate. The contest was relatively simple to setup, but reward in terms of site visits and return engagement was high.

Mechanics:

  1. On your blog or any personal website (outside Sulit.com.ph), post a review, story, or any feedback about a memorable experience you’ve had about Sulit.com.ph – whether it’s buying, selling, or other online (or offline) activities.
  2. Include a link to www.sulit.com.ph and create a catchy title for your blog post. Take note that there is no word count requirement and language preference.  
  3. IMPORTANT: To qualify your entry, post the same content that you published on your blog as a NEW POST in the the Testimonials Forum (Sulit.com.ph Success Stories and Testimonials). Note: One new post per entry. Don’t forget to include the URL of your blog post.   • No. of testimonials submitted for the contest through forum posts: 200
  • No. of forum replies for the entries: 276
  • Active members increased by: 623
  • Unique posted ads increased by: 2,162 

But more than the numbers, what made this campaign successful is realizing that, through the members' submitted testimonials, Sulit.com.ph has been able to help out individuals and small businesses make it big on their chosen industries. We had stories about members having no money, no work, really nothing at all, but because they were able to sell their stuff on Sulit, they have had something to start off with.

It was really overwhelming and heartwarming to find out how our Sulitizens got by and survived in times of financial needs through the help of Sulit.com.ph.

We wanted to create a new forum, one wherein the brand has more control over the discussion. This was to help us get feedback for one of our shows, Bagets. It acted both as a focused group (feedback mechanism) as well as a way to bring the characters closer to the fans. To do this we came up with the Bagets Nation Social Forum (www.bagetsnation.com).

We targeted 30,000 "Likes" for the page. We're already at 49,000.
