Many people created blogs or website for wrong reasons. They spent hundreds of man hours, spent tens of thousands of pesos and sacrificed quality time for family and friends just to create blogs: Only to learn later that their objectives are not within reach.
Blogging or having a website is a complicated task. It is so complicated that simple preparatory moves are necessary to ensure higher percentage of success. The very basic consideration about blogging should not be how much you will earn in the future but what it is that you are offering. Try asking these question to yourself: Are you offering something new? Something special? Something necessary? Something you are good at?
Chances are: You could be offering something that already exist in the world wide web whose products and services are of much better quality than you can ever offer in the next one hundred years. It helps to first look at the existing competition in the web and calculate your chances of becoming a contender in that chosen field. If you think you have what it takes to offer better products or service in the web, then go ahead. If not, better start looking for other service or projects where your chances of success is higher.
For example, if you plan to start a blog about tourist spots in Cebu, do some research first if there exist some blogs about it. Look at them, study them and ask your self if you can do better than the rest of those blogs. This will help you get an idea if you can create a strategy on how to offer better products and/or services against existing blogs.
Among the best strategy in creating a successful blog is filling a gap, satisfying a need, offering something specialize or improving and innovating something that is old and not working. A single blog about a certain small province is more likely to get more visitors in a long term than a blog about travel to Hong Kong which competes with thousands of other blogs and professional websites around the world. A blog that is focused and thoroughly discuss about symptoms of breast cancer is likely to get more visitors than a blog that haphazardly discuss about symptoms of all kinds of cancers.
So instead of thinking how much money you will earn from your blog, think of creating a blog that is unique, necessary, specialized and offers a product or service with true value to its clients and visitors. A blog that envisions to serve its clients in a long term basis. Think of how many people can benefit, how many people can be guided, how many people can be enlightened by your blogs. If this is your line of thinking, your blog will become a permanent destination of the clients whose needs you have satisfied.
