This Friday, July 15, 2011, GMA Kapuso Foundation will launch the Celebrity Ukay Ukay via ebay.   

“Lahat ng ito ay ginagawa natin dahil sa kagustuhan ng Kapuso Foundation na magtayo ng desenteng classrooms”(We are doing all of these because Kapuso Foundation wants to build decent classrooms) says Henry L. Perez, Executive Director of GMA KAPUSO FOUNDATION. He also added that “ Kasi dito ang nireraise namin ay hindi lamang funds kung hindi awareness, awareness that there is this sad plight of education” (Because here we are not just raising funds, but rather awareness, awareness that there is this sad plight of education).

 

There were a lot of donations that came in after Onday, and the foundation is answerable to use it in the right way. All the money was not just used for relief operations, which is just a short term help. The remaining money was used for a long term rehab, and the best investment is education. Howerver, the money can only be used for the schools that have been destroyed by Ondoy and Pepeng.  The Foundation then built 89 classrooms last year, and 55 classrooms this year in Luzon area affected by the typhoon.

 

Meanwhile requests for classrooms are coming in from all over the Philippines, even in places not affected by the typhoon. “We now have been thinking on how to produce the money without any calamity, and to be able to continue our school rehabilitation project” says Mel Tiangco, GMA Kapuso Foundation’s Vice President. For this reason, and with the help and cooperation of Ebay, Celebrity Ukay Ukay was formed. This project will go on the whole year round. It is not only open to GMA artists but to all celebrities. The Foundation gave the assurance that every little centavo will go to the Kapuso Foundation’s school rehabilitation project.
