PAREF Woodrose spends summer at Camp Trailblazer

Summer is here and school is out. Some would spend their summer out of town, or going to a beach, or just simply staying home.

The PAREF WOODROSE, an exclusive school for girls, suggests activities during summer which their students could attend.  One of these activities is the Camp Trail Blazer.

I had the opportunity to visit the 3rdCamp Trail Blazer.  It is a leadership camp for kids at the age of 6 – 12 that

helps boost their confidence and allows them to  discover themselves.  This is a yearly activity.  The camp activities follow the 3Fs namely: Faith, Fun, and Friends.

Students interested can register through their school, and choose the activities they are interested in.  The camp also have junior councilors, which in some cases, were also former campers. Usually they are from the age of 12 – 20 years old, or from 2nd year highschool. They attend leadership seminars once a month, during the weekends, and before the actual camp schedule.

For this year there were 120 campers. 61 of them came from PAREF Woodrose.

There are also 30 Councilors, 11 from PAREF Woodrose wherein 7 are alumni councilors.

During my conversation with the organizers, I learned that the campers are not allowed to bring their mobile phones. Parents don’t have any direct contact with their children during the duration of the camp. They can be updated with the current activities through the Trailblazer Facebook Fan page.

The students have different activities throughout the day. It begins with breakfast at 7am. Then the students are grouped depending on their chosen activity, which include: theater, dancing, singing, guitar playing, jewelry making, photography, arts and crafts, and creative writing.

During our tour, the campers even showed us a part of their dance number. Sports activities are also included.

Following the 3 Fs that includes Faith, Mass is held everyday at 11:20AM. In relation to the camp code of "feminity“, campers are required to wear only dress and not pants during the mass.

In the evening, there is another set of activities like campfire night, costume night, and cheering competition.  Before the lights are out at 10pm, campers also do their evening prayers.

I also had the opportunity to go to the cabins of the campers. The theme for this year is based on the characters of PIXAR animated studios.  Each cabin are decorated according to the different cartoon movies, like the Toy Story. Campers are grouped according to their age. There are around 8 campers in each cabin.

The campers are responsible for cleaning their own cabin. Each chore tasks are being distributed among the campers by their juniorcouncilors.  Everyday, the cleanest cabin and cleanest bathroom are being chosen.

Camp Trailblazer is an ideal place for young girls to enjoy their summer while learning discipline and discovering themselves,  as PAREF Woodrose „ nurtures in its young students a thorough appreciation of both academic and character formation”.  For those who are interested, their admission procedures is as follows:
